Hello, CALS,
It feels like we’re rushing now full-speed toward graduation exercises and summer activities – lab and field work, vacations and travel, and more. Let me start today with a reminder that CALS Convocation - Friday, May 15, at 9 a.m. in Hilton Coliseum - is a terrific way to cheer on and celebrate the graduates of our college. They are, after all, our raison d'etre! Please consider attending, and enjoy the fun of giving our students and their family and friends in attendance a great send-off. You can join the handshake and high-five line, not just for students from your own department, but from every department. Please take a moment and mark your calendar now so you won't forget. Some of you have never been to a CALS Convocation – and I can promise you it’s a good way to spend a few hours as you wind down the semester. Please do!
Last week on Friday evening, the college leadership was invited to the Knoll for a reception with the new ISU President David Cook and his spouse, Dr. Katie Cook. It was a wonderful event with lots of camaraderie, welcomes and good wishes. President Cook is off to a great start, which has included many visits with CALS-aligned stakeholders, students, faculty and staff.
This week, the graduation-season events start to ramp up, including the ISU 25-year Club dinner tonight at the Gateway. Congrats to all CALS people who have reached 25 or more years of service, as we announced and celebrated at the CALS Awards event a few weeks ago! Events this week you all should attend:
- CALS Town Hall - Tuesday, April 14, 12:45-1:45 p.m., Dolezal Auditorium, 127 Curtiss Hall: I’ll be presenting the latest happenings in the college, with special focus on the budget.
- Hertz Lecture - Tuesday, April 14, 4:30-5:30 p.m., Dolezal Auditorium, 127 Curtiss Hall: Given by a panel of three senior leaders from Corteva who will talk about and celebrate the 100th anniversary of Pioneer and its connections to our college and the worldwide arena of agriculture. Please plan to attend, and bring your students and colleagues with you!
Later this week, I’ll attend the Board meeting of The World Comes Here - America's Cultivation Corridor, then head up to Minneapolis to attend the annual Egg Industry Issues Forum and Egg Industry Center Board meeting.
