Greetings, CALS,
I have begun a process for CALS to evaluate and update our college strategic plan, so that we can have a new one ready well before the current five-year version expires at the end of 2022. The current three-page document, and whatever we update it to be, is really more of a statement of purpose and priorities than it is an actual plan. It was very well developed and captures the essence of our college. But as with any such document, the passage of five years creates an opportunity to incorporate new context and insight, update language, and examine how it speaks to our comprehensive college and stakeholders. We will update this document and couple it with a process to establish a variety of rolling strategic initiatives (the “plans”). More on that soon.
To evaluate and update the current document, we’ll have several key groups complete an exercise to “consider and suggest.” The following groups have already done so: CALS dean’s office leaders and department chairs, CALS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee, CALS Faculty Senate Caucus, and CALS Staff Council. Upcoming sessions to do this will be with CALS Student Council and others. The notes from these exercises will go to a writing team to redraft the document, which will then be circulated for broad input by the college. Watch for that!
This CALS process on our Strategic Plan (= Purpose and Priorities) and Strategic Initiatives will align with the University process underway and led by VPR Peter Dorhout. Please reach out to me with any ideas on this, or chat with your department chair.
All the best for a great week. - Dan
