Message from the Dean - February 26, 2024

Greetings, CALS,

I am in Washington, D.C. attending the 2024 Council for Agricultural Research, Extension and Teaching (CARET)/Board on Agriculture Assembly (BAA) Joint Washington Conference that extends through Wednesday. The events include a reception tonight with local CALS alums, government and industry partners and friends. It is being hosted by myself and Jason Henderson, vice president for ISU Extension and Outreach, with special guests Alexis Taylor, Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs, and Manjit Misra, director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. Iowa CARET representatives - Don Latham, Bob Petrzelka, Kevin Ross and Katie Stutsman - also will be in attendance.

More next week. Best - Dan

In the outer vestibule of the main entrance to Curtiss Hall is this unassuming bronze plaque strangely all by itself. But it references Suel Foster, a true giant in our college's history and more. Check it out and learn of the horticultural and civic roots of our wonderful college. Read about Foster's impact on the future of agriculture and horticulture in Iowa, as written by the late Charles V. Hall, emeritus professor of horticulture. Additional information about Foster can be found on the Iowa State University Biographical Dictionary webpage.
