Hello, CALS,
As we are officially in spring and welcome April later this week, we’re surely in the homestretch toward graduation and summer. Enjoy the spring air, the emerging daffodils, blue squill and honeysuckle (all exotics) and everything there is about the renewal this time of year brings.
Over spring break, our ISU-Uganda Program featured the Next Generation Institute to bring together thinkers and doers from around the world interested in development. During that effort, the following media releases were developed and released by local news sources:
- School feeding program targets additional 5,000 learners in Busoga:
- A video clip in the local Ugandan language
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending President Cook’s first President’s Council session. We are thrilled that this week he’ll take time to attend the spring meeting of the AgState group that we’re hosting here on campus, and then that same evening in Ankeny, the annual Ag Leaders event, led by Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship Secretary Mike Naig, with many state leaders attending. AgState is the leadership of groups such as Iowa Corn, Iowa Soybean, Iowa Pork, Farm Bureau, dairy, poultry and egg, turkey, agribusiness, cooperatives, beef and cattle, Iowa State and more. It’s a great group that works and thinks together on the future of agriculture. There’s a lot to talk about, from low prices to high costs, from disease to therapies, from productivity to profitability and environmental performance.
I’ve continued my spring visits to each department, most recently the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice and the Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology, and always appreciate the time and opportunity to share and learn. Thanks to all of you that I see at those visits!
This week, too, I’ll present the college budget overview, along with Mike Retallick and Jordan Gillespie, to Provost Jason Keith and his team as we prepare for the next fiscal year. At the upcoming CALS Town Hall on April 14 from 12:45-1:45 p.m. in 127 Curtiss Hall, I’ll review that with all of you.
