Message from the Dean - November 27, 2023

Hello, CALS,

Welcome back after the Thanksgiving break!

Only 18 days until CALS Convocation and the beginning of the university Commencement exercises. Please plan to attend Convocation (Friday, Dec. 15, at 9 a.m. in Hilton Coliseum) and join the handshake line to congratulate and celebrate our graduates!

Also, don't forget to RSVP to attend the CALS holiday party, scheduled for Dec. 4, from 4-6 p.m. in Sukup Atrium.

All the best for a great week. - Dan

Scenes from CALS

This stunning sunset photo of the Iowa State University Kent Feed Mill and Grain Science Complex was taken on Nov. 22, by Joseph Rossiter, family member of Lyle Rossiter, Allee Demonstration Farm superintendent.

When visiting Catt Hall, you may have noticed the motifs over the main front doors. In 1892, until the opening of what is now Curtiss Hall, the building was known as Agricultural Hall, the home of what is now called CALS. George Washington Carver had an office in Agricultural Hall, along with so many others of that notable time in our history. Learn more about the histories of Catt Hall and Curtiss Hall. Does anyone know the story or origin of the quote found in the third panel, “The Sun is Rising Over a...New Heaven and a New Earth?" I have tried to find out, but without luck.
